| Directing: From Good to Great With Simon Mallett Saturday, June 4, 11:30pm – 6:00pm What IS the difference between a good director, and a Great one? SYNOPSIS: Participants will explore intermediate directing subjects, including: what is an actor's role versus a director's, molding performances to suit your vision, & building a unified team. Newcomers are welcome, but please be aware that this workshop will be set at an intermediate level, and basic concepts will not be the focus. . INSTRUCTOR BIO: Simon is the Founder & Artistic Producer of Downstage, a Calgary-based company that produces Canadian theatre that is socially and politically engaged. He has directed many of the company's productions including Habitat, Bone Cage, Enoch Arden in the Hope Shelter, Goodness, Bus(t), the World Premiere of Sharon Pollock's Man Out of Joint and In the Wake, for which he was nominated for the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Direction. Simon has also worked as a director with a variety of other theatre companies including Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Lunchbox Theatre and New West Theatre. He holds a MFA in Directing from the University of Calgary, an Honours BA in Drama from the University of Guelph, and he is the recipient of The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and an Enbridge Emerging Artist Award.
