At first they each assume the others are in the wrong place, but when mysterious things begin to happen, and they have to spend the night together, they reassess their predicament. Eventually, an idea begins to take shape that they may have left life as we know it, and entered the hereafter. Based loosely on stock character types from Italian farce, Lunari’s play has been translated into more than 20 languages and produced all over the world. Character Breakdown: THE BUSINESSMAN: (descendent of Pantalone character from commedia dell’arte) Constantly anxious. Private, practical, straightforward, emotional. Trying to understand the bigger picture, but terrified of what it might be. Loaded with pent up and repressed guilt. Simple, upbeat, lives and understands life within black and white systems. Can be quite crass in a colloquial and generally disarming way. Sings old songs.
