Each on the verge of the accomplishments that shaped their notoriety and introduced their genius to the world, these two phenomenal minds meet at the Lapin Agile in Paris, 1904, to discuss physics and art while attempting to impress a beautiful woman. With a cast of unique and colourful characters in the bar with them, including a visitor from the future – this play has been introduced with the question: “Ever wonder what it would have been like if wild and crazy Steve Martin had written an episode of “The Twilight Zone”?” You can discover the answer for yourself in January of 2012, when Morpheus Theatre proudly presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile to Calgary audiences. Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin features the characters of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, who meet at a bar called the Lapin Agile (Nimble Rabbit) in Montmartre, Paris. It is set in 1904, and both men are on the verge of an amazing idea (Einstein will publish the Special Theory of Relativity in 1905 and Picasso will paint Les Demoiselles d'Avignon in 1907) when they find themselves at the Lapin Agile, where they argue about the art of physics and the physics of art. While displaying their genius and talent, they interact with a host of other eccentric, hilarious and charming characters. ROLES Albert Einstein: (M - Age twenty-five) Ambitious, confident and somewhat arrogant. He is a genius after all. Pablo Picasso: (M - Age twenty-three) Handsome, flirtatious, moody and somewhat arrogant. He’s also a genius. Freddy: (M - Late-thirties) Owner and bartender of the Lapin Agile.
