Auditions: Peter Pan: A Pantomime
Wednesday August 10th, 2011 - Saturday August 13th, 2011
Information:
Morpheus Theatre will be holding open auditions for Peter Pan: A Pantomime
on August 10th, 11th and 13th. This is a new adaptation of the works of
J.M. Barrie by our own Erin Millar.

"All children, except one, grow up." So begins a beloved tale about a boy who can fly and his grand adventures. This December, join us on a journey filled with imagination and swashbuckling shenanigans! Morpheus Theatre is proud to present this season's panto - oh yes it is!! - Peter Pan. Come away with us to Neverland, where we will delight in Peter's mischief and games, where we can imagine wonders with the Lost Boys, where we can help the hungry crocodile find Captain Hook; where we can all be children again, for a little while. Do you believe in fairies?

Open auditions for all roles will take place:
Wednesday August 10th (7:00 to 9:30pm)
Thursday August 11th (7:00 to 9:30pm) and
Saturday August 13th (11:00am to 3:00pm)

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, August 14th, from 11:00 to 4:00. We will
be working through more complex dance choreography, show specific music and
more in depth vocal testing as well as scene work and fight choreography. It
will be important to make every effort to attend if you are asked in for a
callback.

at the NEW Morpheus Rehearsal Centre
3512 - 5th Avenue NW
(Lower Level - Parkdale Community Centre)

Audition Requirements:
* Those interested in auditioning are asked to prepare a monologue - and
have fun with it. Pick a piece you love to do, one that makes you laugh and
challenges you, that also shows a good range of emotion and leaves room for
physicality. It needs to be memorized and 2-3 minutes long. Use your
imagination and please come prepared to play.

* We are also asking that everyone prepare a song. Not everyone will have a
solo in the show, but everyone will be involved in at least one group song.
Again - have fun with it. Choose a piece you love and one that will show the
panel as much of your vocal range as possible. Please also include some
physicality in your song, choreograph yourself some fun moves, or a dance to
go with the chorus - it doesn't need to be very complicated or throughout
the whole song, but we need to get a sense of how you move. We will have an
accompanist, but if you are more comfortable with your music on CD, we will
also have a CD player handy. You are also welcome to sing a capella.

* "Peter Pan: A Pantomime" will be a very physical show; with slapstick,
dance, fights and panto pacing throughout.

* Reading the play and/or the novel by J.M. Barrie is not a bad idea either!

ROLES
Star: (F) our Narrator and guide to Neverland. Star is energetic, fun-loving
and passionate. She loves a good story and playing with the audience.
Lola: (M) (30-40s) our Dame; also, The infamous tick-tocking Crocodile. Lola
is fierce, with a one track mind - James Hook will be hers, wholly,
completely and without a doubt. For dinner, or happily ever after - she's on
a mission.

The Goodies
Wendy Darling: (F) the eldest of the Darling children, Wendy is sweet and
caring.
John Darling: (M) the middle child, John is a logical young man who is never
without his hat.
Michael Darling: (M) the youngest child, Michael is still discovering all
the fun to be found in the simplest things.
George Darling: (M) George is a good Father and a kind hearted man, though
he tends to bluster about rather dramatically - this role will likely be
double cast.
Mary Darling: (F) Mary is a kind and loving Mother who is head over heels
for her children - this role will likely be double cast.
Peter Pan: (F) the one child who has never grown up, Peter is cocky,
fun-loving, daring and brave. If you are interested in auditioning for
Peter, be warned - you will be asked to crow and sword fight.
Tinker Bell: (F) Tinker Bell is a silent part, though she will participate
in at least one group number and dances a fair bit. She is petulant and
feisty, and rather adorable in her own cranky way.

The Lost Boys
Tootles: (M) Tootles is a boy with simple tastes. He loves hearing stories
and eating when he's hungry. He is one of Peter's loyal troops.
Slightly: (M) A somewhat jumpy young man, enjoys poking at or trying to best
Nibs. Another proud and loyal member of the crew.
Nibs: (M) An enthusiastic, fun-loving boy who enjoys all kinds of songs and
games.

The Baddies
Captain Hook: (M) James Hook is two parts evil villain, one part gentleman
and scholar and one part misunderstood philosopher pirate. He is mean and
ruthless, and dead set on having his revenge on Peter Pan. This role also
involves sword fighting.
Smee: (M) Strangely loveable Smee, he is Hook's bosun and a budding tailor.
He's not a very good pirate, or a very good sailor, but he is very loyal to
Hook and wants his Captain to be happy.
Starkey: (M) One half of our Comic duo. Starkey would probably be considered
the leader of the two, though he's not much smarter than Skylights. They
have become part of the pirate crew, but are balladeers by profession,
hoping they can be of some use and not have to walk the plank.
Skylights: (M) the other half of our Comic duo. Skylights has a softer side
to him and is prone to mild panic attacks if he gets upset. He knows that
he's not cut out for the pirate's life and desperately wishes to avoid swimming
with the fishes.

Chorus of 5-7: (M/F)will play roles such as Nana, mermaids, Never birds,
fairies, etc.

* Please note that while "Peter Pan: A Pantomime" is a show the whole family
can enjoy, there is some adult humour throughout, so anyone under the age of
18 wishing to audition should check with a parent or guardian.

Rehearsals will start on September 7, 2011 and run every Monday and
Wednesday evening, and Saturdays beginning at noon.
Performances are December 14 - 18, 2011 at the Pumphouse Theatre.
