| Intermediate Directing Workshop: What a Director ISN’T & More with Mark Bellamy Saturday November 28th, 2009 10:00 – 4:30 Synopsis: Mark will lead participants in exploring intermediate directing subjects, including (but not limited to): - What a director isn't (what is an actor's role versus a director's) - How to get an actor to change their performance/action/meaning to better suit your vision - Building a unified team (Cast AND Crew) This workshop will be geared toward participants who have directed before or who have worked with directors before. Newcomers are welcome, but please be aware that this workshop will be set at an intermediate level, and basic concepts will not be the focus. Presenter: Now in his sixth year as Artistic Director of Vertigo Theatre, Mark Bellamy has worked across North America as an actor and director for companies such as Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Calgary, Lunchbox Theatre, Stage West, The Citadel Theatre, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Ground Zero Theatre, Hit & Myth Productions, Tapestry Theatre, Follows Latimer Productions, Gene Wolsk Productions (Las Vegas), Telluride Repertory Theatre (Colorado) and The Riverpark Centre (Kentucky). Mark has received several Betty Mitchell Awards for his work as a director/choreographer and was the recipient of the 2006 Greg Bond Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre in Calgary and the co-recipient for the 2007 Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Contribution to Theatre in Calgary. In 2008 Mark was invited to direct at The International Mystery Writers Festival in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he was honoured with an Angie Award for his direction of the world premiere of Stuart Kaminsky's The Final Toast. Mark was raised in Calgary and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with Distinction) in Drama from the University of Calgary. He lives here with his fantastic golden retriever, Cooper. | |
