An Evaluator’s Eye: The Semiotics of Audition for Actors and Directors (what the experts are looking for) with Richard Michelle-Pentelbury Sunday, Sept 13th, 2009 10:00 – 3:30 The most popular workshop for our 2008-2009 workshop season is back to kick-off the new season. This time it includes both tips & tricks on what a Director is looking for from an actor, AND an afternoon of practical audition pointers! Space is limited. Participants are asked to prepare a one minute monologue. Synopsis: Experienced or novice, both are met by the same eye of evaluation, whether a canned audition piece, cold read, or improvisation. The director and production team, knowledgeably aware or not, are instinctually looking beyond archetypal BVEAT, SEMIOTICS, RELAY, DYNAMICS, and VERACITY. To be familiar with these devices is to be audition savvy; an advantaged tool-box of techniques for any thespian. The morning session will discuss important topics regarding auditions; similar to our workshop from last year. Then, the afternoon session will give participants the opportunity to present a prepared piece, and receive feedback. Presenter: Richard Michelle-Pentelbury is a multiple-award winning 50+ veteran of theatre. His training is “from SOLE through SOUL”; an opportunity not to be missed.
