| Front Row Centre Players announces auditions for its first show of the 2009/2010 season - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Book by Hugh Wheeler From an adaption by Christopher Bond Directed by Bill Torrie Musical Direction by Patrice Barnes Where: The Community Arts Centre at the Currie Barracks (2633 Hochwald Ave S.W.) in the FRC Studio (watch for signage). When: Tuesday, June 23 to Thursday, June 25, 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Auditions for the role of Johanna Saturday, June 27, 2009 10:00am - 12:00pm Callbacks: Saturday, June 27, 1:00 pm Audition Requirements: Please prepare a SHORT dramatic monologue and a song that showcases your vocal abilities. Sondheim music is encouraged but please do not prepare a song from Sweeney Todd. A piano and CD player will be made available but you must bring your own accompaniment. NOTE: This show requires strong singers. The music for Sweeney is difficult and will require a strong ensemble and a great attention to musical detail from all. The show will also contain mature content not suitable for all people. About the Show: Sweeney Todd - Innocence twists into vengeance on the cobblestone streets of 19th century London. Come along on a sophisticated, macabre, and uncompromising tale as Benjamin Barker, a barber, becomes Sweeney Todd, the demon butcher, and his landlady, the local pie proprietress goes from making "The Worst Pies in London" to creating a culinary crime described only as "My God That's Good." This barbarous ode to vengeance accomplishes the rare task of offering intense drama, darkly side splitting humour and a ripping musical score. Show Run Dates: November 6 - 14, 2009 in the Victor Mitchell Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatres. Evening Shows: Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat at 7:30 pm with a possible show on Tuesdays Matinee Shows: Sat and Sun at 2:00 pm Rehearsal Schedule: Rehearsals will begin on June 30th and will take place twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) through the month of July with individual rehearsals as arranged with the Musical Director during July and August. Rehearsals will resume Sept 2nd with Sunday afternoons added in. Roles Available: Total of 29 cast members: 16 men - aged 18+, 12 women aged 18+, 1 strong soprano aged 14-18+ Character Roles: Sweeney Todd - Bass/Baritone Mrs. Lovett - Mezzo-soprano Anthony - Tenor Johanna - Lyric/Col.
